Today was my son’s Winter Band Concert.  Earlier in the day, he told me I will be “surprised.”

The first-chair percussionist contracted the stomach virus and was reportedly puking horrendously, so he was not able to play the drum set.  On one day’s notice and three practice sessions, my son was chosen to step away from the concert base, the cymbals, and snare to fill in for the first time in three years on the drum set.  He kept the rhythm during the song “Let it Rock,” hit the fills and cymbals crashes while bobbing his long-haired head around slightly and being a total rock star.  His father and I were very proud.

The Boy did not tell us he would be spotlighted to play the drum set because he wanted to surprise us.  Wonderful!

Way to go, nasty 24 hour stomach bug!
